Former US Energy Secretary Ernest J. Moniz was honored with the St. Thomas More Award April 27 at BC Law’s annual Law Day dinner at the Hyatt Regency Boston. Four alumni—Michael J. Puzo ’77, Norah M. Wylie ’79, Joan Zorza ’81, and Jermaine Kidd ’07—were also recognized.
One of the Law School’s largest events, Law Day is an opportunity to pay tribute to those who have demonstrably enhanced the legal community, BC Law, and the public interest in a variety of ways. John Hanify ’74 and Tom Burton ’96 were this year’s co-chairs.
For his long-term service and commitment to the Law School, Puzo received the William J. Kenealy, SJ, Alumnus of the Year Award. Wylie, who was Dean for Students for 16 years, took home the Special Service Award. For devoting her career to ending violence against women, Zorza was honored with the Hon. David S. Nelson Public Interest Award. And for his achievements in the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office and in various legal organizations, Jermaine Kidd ’07 was tapped for the Recent Graduate Award.
As the 13th US Secretary of Energy from 2013 to 2017, Moniz advanced energy technology innovation, nuclear security and strategic stability, cutting-edge capabilities for the American scientific community, and environmental stewardship.
Proceeds from Law Day support the Law School for student scholarships.
