LAHANAS held its annual Fall Kickoff Garden Party on September 17, bringing together people from across the BC community for a chance to reconvene after the summer and welcome in new students to the BC Law community.

LAHANAS is a longstanding organization at BC Law, open to all, that supports students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds as they make their transition to the Law School and which also engages external supporters who are committed to increasing diversity in the legal profession.

“Community is at the heart of LAHANAS, so it’s always so much fun to create opportunities to bring everyone together, whether it’s academically, professionally, socially, or a mix of all three,” commented 3L Noah Francois, a co-director of LAHANAS this year. Eimaan Anwar, a 2L also co-directing LAHANAS, heartily thanked Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Lisa Brathwaite for her support and leadership, and added, “The kickoff was a really wonderful opportunity for students, administrators, and faculty to welcome the new 1Ls and reconnect with one other, in an informal setting. We’re very excited for the year ahead and have a full lineup of events planned.”

Some of the organizations and departments LAHANAS supports and complements at BC Law include: the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), the Black Law Students Association (BLSA), the Disability Law Students Association (DLSA), the Latin American Law Students Association (LALSA), Lambda Law Students Association, the Middle Eastern Law Students Association (MELSA), the Native American Law Students Association (NALSA), the South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA), and the Career Services Office (CSO).
