This past month, BC Law hosted various campus events, from themed seasonal gatherings to professional panels to current events discussions, and many more in between. Here is a selection of events held in October.

Leading Women

In a collaborative effort between the Sports and Entertainment Law Society and Women’s Law Coalition,  panelists came to discuss their legal paths and career experiences. Additional accomplished women visited campus in October for a panel focused on “Intersecting Identities in Law.” Here, Olubunmi Olotu ’06, Thao Ho, Kareema Scott ’10, Danielle Allard, and Rodline Louijeune ’17 discussed how their identities and backgrounds have shaped their careers in the legal field.

Professional Development Panels

Several professional panels connected BC Law students with field leaders. The Intellectual Property and Technology Forum (IPTF) hosted a discussion on sports and IP law, featuring IPTF’s co-founder Michael Sapherstein ’97, assistant chief counsel at Marvel/Disney. The Massachusetts Bar Association, in partnership with the Business Law Society and Career Services, held a student-moderated panel on business law, featuring practitioners who shared career insights from firms, finance, and public service.

Keeping Up with Current Events

This month, BC Law launched the fall Critical Conversations Series, opening with Professors Andrea Olson and Sergio Campos discussing the Supreme Court’s decision in Trump v. CASA and its implications for nationwide junctions. Later, Professor Zinaida Miller from Northeastern University Law School led a talk on human rights and transitional justice in Israel and Palestine, comparing post-conflict approaches across nations.

An Author’s Inside Scoop

Professors Ray Madoff and Sharon Beckman had a dialogue on Madoff’s newest publication, The Second Estate: How the Tax Code Made an American Aristocracy. The book talk offered attendees a closer look at debates around tax policy, wealth distribution, and the legal frameworks that shape them. BC Law Magazine previously did a Q+A with Madoff about the book detailing how and why the wealthy avoid taxes.

Law, Gender, and Sexuality

Multiple events held this past month highlighted LGBTQ+ rights and advocacy. A discussion on “LGBTQ+ Rights Under Trump”, paired with a Lambda Legal fundraising raffle, explored how protections have evolved in recent years under the current administration. Additionally, a collaborative panel between If/When/How and Lambda examined LGBTQ+ issues in reproductive and sexual health care, with experts sharing insights on law, policy, and advocacy.
