Boston College Law School’s Black Law Students Association (BLSA) hosted its annual Ruth-Arlene Howe Heritage Banquet at the Endicott Estate in Dedham on April 17. This year’s banquet was particularly special, as a powerful message from the 91-year-old professor emerita and event namesake was played for BLSA students and members of the Black Alumni Network (BAN) in attendance, and Judge Leslie Harris, who passed away earlier in the year, was honored.
Judge Barbara A. Dortch-Okara ’74, the first African American and first woman to become Chief Justice for Administration and Management of the Trial Court, received the Inaugural Leslie E. Harris Lifetime Achievement Award.
In addition, 2Ls Sydney Taub and Leia Washington, and 1L Kathiana Souffrant, received the Ruth-Arlene W. Howe Black Student Leadership Initiative Scholarship.
In celebration of their upcoming graduation, 3L BLSA members were welcomed to BAN membership. The new BLSA e-board for the next academic year was also announced.
