Wirth to Advise US Trade Representative

BC Law professor’s international and environmental expertise earn him appointment to White House committee.

BC Law Professor David Wirth

Professor and Dean’s Distinguished Scholar David Wirth has been appointed to the Trade and Environment Policy Advisory Committee (TEPAC), which advises the US Trade Representative, a member of President Joe Biden’s Cabinet. Wirth is one of only three academic representatives on the committee.

TEPAC was established in 1974 and plays a crucial role in providing general policy advice on environmental policy and trade issues. The committee is composed of eighteen representatives who deal with matters such as negotiating objectives on environmental matters, the environmental impact of trade agreements, and other business to do with the development, implementation, and administration of trade policy in the United States.

Wirth has had a distinguished career, having served on advisory boards across several organizations, among them Vermont Law School, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Resources Defense Council, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Other previous Washington, DC, positions included Attorney-Adviser for Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs in the Office of the Legal Adviser of the US Department of State.
