1Ls Treated to Survival Kits

A decades-old tradition provides first-years with bags of swag and sweets to help them prep for finals.

The Survival Kit giveaway, a tradition started decades ago by Professor Ingrid Hillinger to comfort 1Ls facing the anxiety of their first-semester final exams, was a bonanza again this year. The 220 swag bags were filled to capacity with goodies, snacks, and school supplies.

The twenty-seven 2Ls and 3Ls who produce the Uniform Commercial Code Reporter-Digest assembled the kits in just a day. But collecting what went into the bags took months of reaching out to the more than sixty law firms and businesses who donated the swag.

Organizer Shavonne Farrell ’25 spoke about the rewarding experience of arranging the event. “Organizing the Survival Kits was an impactful way for me to give back to the BC Law community as my time here comes to a close,” she said. “It was a pleasure to hopefully provide the same experience to the 1Ls this year as the stress of the exam period begins to ramp up.”
