Heritage: Elected the first Black clerk of the Supreme Judicial Court for Suffolk County, Massachusetts, Cartwright has dedicated her life to representing and amplifying the voices of indigent and marginalized people, drawing inspiration from family and others’ paths. Honesty: During her campaign, she discovered how critical a good team is: “I treasure the mutual trust that I was able to build with people who will live on beyond the campaign.” History: With a family legacy of trailblazers in public service, Cartwright analogizes their work to that of a relay race: “Once the baton is passed, there is a responsibility to go faster and further. The baton is in my hand and I have to now prepare to do my part to pass it on to the next generation.”
