Jason Langberg, a senior attorney with the US Department of Education, Office for Civil Rights in Denver, CO, authored The Life of a Movement Lawyer: Lewis Pitts and the Struggle for Democracy, Equality, and Justice, recently published by the University of South Carolina Press. The book sheds light on unsung heroes and lesser-known movements, and he hopes it will energize, inspire, and compel action to tackle issues that continue to afflict the US today. He interviewed and corresponded with over 100 people who have been part of Lewis’s journey and reviewed over sixty-plus years’ worth of cases, articles, organizational files, correspondence, and countless other records and publications.
