Sean P. Mahoney

Sean P. Mahoney, general counsel at Northern Bank in Woburn, MA, published an essay entitled “Team Northern Hits Another Homerun for Heading Home” in the June issue of “Compass,” the bank’s internal newsletter, highlighting a group of Northern employees who volunteer at Heading Home, a Boston non-profit providing housing and support services to the homeless. Fellow BC Law grad James J. Mawn Jr. ’95, president and chief executive officer at Northern Bank, is a corporate partner of the nonprofit and a member of its board of directors.

The Reveal: A single mom and her two children were overjoyed to receive permanent housing from the non-profit Heading Home after their family members, who had helped them emigrate to the US from the Dominican Republic, died, leaving them nowhere to live. A Win-Win: Likewise, Northern Bank’s CEO Jim Mawn ’95, General Counsel Sean Mahoney ’98, and employee volunteers who assisted in the move were grateful and humbled to help set up a new home for them. Blessing: A special moment came when members of the Northern team shared a Dominican housewarming prayer with the family at their new home. Life-Changing Experiences: Mahoney reflects: “The full team at Northern comes together to give these entire families the hope and help they need to fulfill their dreams. Everyone participates, from people collecting items, to donating items and funds, to organizing, and then there are those of us who are lucky enough to be able to help with the move.”
