There’s nothing like a gathering of old friends—and when you bring nearly 600 graduates and friends of BC Law together to toast their shared memories, you’ve got a powerhouse of a party. Alumni from ten classes got to network, see today’s classrooms in action, and learn about the work of notable alumni during BC Law Reunion and Alumni Weekend 2017 last November.
The weekend kicked off on Friday with open classrooms followed by a screening of the Emmy-nominated documentary Abacus: Small Enough to Jail. We then had the pleasure of hearing directly from Vera Sung ’90 and Chanterelle Sung ’04, whose family bank was the subject of the film. The day concluded with our much loved Bar Review. Just like being law students again!
Saturday’s festivities at the Copley Fairmont started with a brunch for Reunion Committee volunteers with special guest Dean Vincent Rougeau. Then Robin Young, host of WBUR’s Here and Now, moderated a panel titled The Issues a Year After the 2016 Election for Congress, the Courts, and Business with Congressman Michael Capuano ’77 and BC Law professors Renee Jones and George Brown. Later, Dean’s Council members gathered for a special reception with Dean Rougeau and Professor Mary Bilder, who expressed gratitude for members’ generous support.
The evening culminated in spirited class dinners. For many, these dinners, which bring our vital community together in fellowship, are the highlight of Reunion.
Inspired by their reunion year, many alumni made gifts to BC Law and encouraged their classmates to do the same, raising a total exceeding $4.7 million. Special congratulations to the most successful fundraisers, the Class of 1977, whose gifts and pledges totaled $2.1 million.
