Arthur J. McCabe ’74
New Venture: After 50 years of diverse legal and business experience, the Vietnam-era veteran, 80, is an appellate hearing officer for the Massachusetts Department of Unemployment Assistance. “It’s a perfect job for me—it keeps me busy all day and a little bit creative.” Championing Resilient Communities: A respected community development leader and architect of public/private partnerships, he has played key roles in revitalizing struggling communities from Massachusetts to Northern Ireland. Most Valued Accolade: An acknowledgment in the program book for a play about the “troubles” in Northern Ireland, Binlids, that he helped bring from the Catholic enclave of West Belfast to New York in 1998: “With sincere thanks to Art McCabe, who enables great people to do great things.”

Seasoned: Confirmed in February as the 113th Associate Justice on the New Hampshire Supreme Court, he integrates experience from decades in civil practice with public service as the state’s first Solicitor General and as an Associate Justice on the state’s Superior Court. First Impressions: After the docket-driven workload of the Superior Court, he appreciates the more contemplative role of a Supreme Court Justice. “Looking at things in a deeper way is part of the job, and it’s a luxury, because in other positions I didn’t always have time to dig as deeply as I might like.” Collegial Culture: “We agree, we disagree, we debate, and we also joke around with each other,” he says of his four fellow justices. “It’s a terrific environment.”

Fair Play: The inaugural Director of the Justice Review Unit in the Office of Massachusetts Attorney General investigates wrongful convictions and develops best practices for post-conviction discovery. Case History: She is currently examining an innocence claim about a 2001 arson case from Cape Cod. “It’s really a joy to jump into these cases and try to piece them back together, because in 85 percent of exoneration cases there are pieces missing, meaning evidence was not turned over to the defendant at the time of trial.” Streamlining Investigations: “We’ve created a technical assistant protocol, Discovery Assistance Review, to help DAs involved in innocence investigations with discovery, gathering and scanning all the case materials and creating a privilege log.”
Julie C. Grundman ’04
Cybersecurity Strategist: As a senior vice president at consulting firm Beacon Global Strategies, she advises global companies on managing cyber risk, adapting to the new world of AI-enabled cyber threats, navigating cybersecurity and AI regulations, and public sector growth. Bridging the Divide: Often acting as “an interlocutor among technical, business, and legal teams,” she translates cyber threats into business risk, enabling executives to make informed funding decisions and drive business growth. Promoting Bipartisan Policy: She serves on the board of Partnership for a Secure America. “For me, national security is the ultimate non-partisan issue—it is important to forge common ground to support US interests.”
