Kathleen McKenna ’78 

Kathleen McKenna ’78 was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award presented by Corporate Counsel, as part of the 2022 Women, Influence and Power in Law Awards honoring women lawyers who have made a significant difference in the legal profession. She is a partner in the New York, NY, office of Proskauer Rose LLP and a member of the firm’s labor and employment law practice.


Martin L. Aronson ’58
Aronson is the author of Full Courtroom Press, a courtroom drama thriller set in Boston, published by BookBaby in October. He is retired from practice as a civil trial lawyer with Boston-based White, Inker, Aronson PC; is a past president of the BC Law Alumni Association and the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates; and was a longstanding member of BC Law’s adjunct faculty.


Hon. William D. Delahunt ’67
Delahunt, former Massachusetts district attorney and US representative, was recognized in October by the naming of the Norfolk County (MA) Superior Courthouse in his honor. Among the numerous BC Law alumni who attended the dedication celebration were Suzanne M. Del Vecchio ’67 and John F. Kerry ’76, who both spoke, and Robert S. Creedon ’67.


James D. O’Brien Jr. ’73
O’Brien is of counsel in the Worcester, MA, office of Seder & Chandler LLP and a member of the firm’s litigation and alternative dispute resolution practice group. He focuses his practice on diverse civil matters.


John D. Hanify ’74
Hanify is principal mediator at Middlesex Mediation LLC in Boston, where he represents business and financial institutions in cases involving federal securities laws, lender liability, real estate development, fiduciary duty, and mergers and acquisitions. In addition, he serves clients in mediations and facilitates case assessments for those seeking alternatives to litigation.


John P. “Jack” Joy ’76
Joy is the author of Lawyer Up: Best Loved Lawyer Proverbs from Around the World and Corporate Meditations: For the Executive Whose Cup Runneth Over published in July and October, respectively, and available in paperback and Kindle editions.


Hon. Carmen Messano ’77
Messano continues as presiding judge for Administration of the Appellate Division of the Superior Court of New Jersey under the new title of chief judge of the Appellate Division, following a recently amended court rule. He writes, “I am honored to be the first in the history of our court, created by New Jersey’s 1947 Constitution, to hold the position with this title.”


Elizabeth M. Hewlett ’79
Hewlett was appointed a commissioner of the National Capital Planning Commission by President Biden in October. She was also named to Maryland Attorney General-Elect Anthony Brown’s Transition Team Steering Committee. An attorney known for her trailblazing public service, she recently retired from her second term as chair of the Prince George’s County (MD) Planning Board and the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, where she was the first African American to hold the post.


Peter C. K. Fong ’80
Fong was appointed chair of the Board of Directors of Maryknoll School in Honolulu, HI, and chair of the board of directors and president of Palolo Chinese Home. Fong writes that he “lives the Maryknoll School Noblesse Oblige motto of ‘to whom much is given, much is expected.’” He is a partner at Fong & Fong, Attorneys-at-Law, in Honolulu and a per diem judge for the State of Hawaii.


Paul J. Ayoub ’82
Ayoub was reelected chair of the National Board of Governors of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Associated with the organization since 1992, he continues a family legacy begun by his father, a member of the original group that helped Danny Thomas establish the hospital. Ayoub is chair of Nutter, McClennen & Fish LLP in Boston and a partner in the firm’s real estate practice.


Deborah B. Goldberg ’83
Goldberg won reelection as Massachusetts state treasurer and receiver general, an office she has held since 2015. She is known for her innovative leadership and her commitment to creating economic stability, security, and opportunity for Massachusetts residents.


Lynne Spigelmire Viti ’84
Viti announces the release of her latest poetry collection, The Walk to Cefalù, published by Cornerstone Press in September. A faculty emerita in the Wellesley College Writing Program, she teaches in community education programs, leads poetry workshops, and pilots a poets-in-the-schools project in Westwood, MA.


William Ryan Hart Jr. ’86
Hart was nominated by President Biden to serve as the United States Marshal for the District of New Hampshire. He retired in July following thirteen years as chief of police of the Londonderry (NH) Police Department, where he previously served as department captain.


Mathew S. Rosengart ’87
Rosengart was honored with the Excellence in Advocacy Award presented by the Beverly Hills Bar Association Litigation Section at their 10th Annual Litigation Awards Dinner in September. He is a partner in the Los Angeles, CA, and New York, NY, offices of Greenberg Traurig LLP and concentrates his practice on litigation, media and entertainment litigation, and white-collar criminal defense.


Maribeth Petrizzi ’90
Petrizzi, assistant director of the Compliance Division of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in Washington, DC, was named acting director of the FTC Bureau of Competition during the agency’s transition at the start of the Biden Administration. She is a recipient of the 2021 Roger W. Jones Award for Executive Leadership presented by the American University’s Key Executive Leadership Programs and was inducted into the Women.Connected Committee’s Hall of Fame-inism of the American Bar Association Antitrust Section for her contributions to promoting women in the antitrust, consumer protection, and data privacy fields.


Michael C. Hochman ’95
Hochman is deputy general counsel and deputy chief of staff at the Office of the National Cyber Director in Washington, DC, where he oversees executing directives from the executive branch of the US government. He was previously deputy staff secretary and special assistant to the president at the White House Office of the Staff Secretary and, before that, an attorney at Monzack, Mersky, McLaughlin & Browder in Wilmington, DE.


Ingrid C. Schroffner ’95
Schroffner was a moderator at a UMass Chan Medical School forum recognizing Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in May and co-chair and speaker on “The Narrative the Statistics Tell: How Historic and Implicit Bias Can Create Unique Hurdles for Minority and Woman-Owned Businesses” at a MCLE webinar in June. Her new book, Odd Simple Beauty, featuring song lyrics from her previous collections and the work of local artists, was published by BookBaby in October; all proceeds benefit Asian Women for Health, a nonprofit organization promoting the health and wellbeing of Asian women through education, advocacy, and support. She is one of five women named to the 2022 Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly (MLW) Circle of Excellence, having previously been named a MLW Top Women of Law. Schroffner is senior associate attorney at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School Office of Management.


Michael E. Mone Jr. ’96
Mone was inducted as a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers at the annual meeting of the college in Rome, Italy, in September. He is a partner at Boston-based Esdaile, Barrett, Jacobs & Mone LLP and practices in all areas of civil litigation, with an emphasis on medical malpractice, and motor vehicle, construction, premises, and products liability.


Carol L. Tate ’96
Tate was promoted to vice president and chief compliance officer of Intel Corporation in San Francisco, CA. She joined Intel in 2016 as associate general counsel and director of ethics and legal compliance and was most recently acting chief compliance officer. She previously served as corporate chief ethics and compliance officer at McCarthy Holdings in St. Louis, MO.


Howard L. Brown ’97
Brown is of counsel in the Flagstaff, AZ, office of Aspey, Watkins & Diesel PLLC and continues his practice in the areas of Indian and tribal law, education law, and business law.


Gary J. Guzzi ’98
Guzzi is chair of the nationwide insurance litigation practice at Akerman LLP in Miami, FL, having joined the firm immediately after graduating from BC Law. His practice involves the representation of insurance companies in insurance coverage and bad faith disputes. He is also a member of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association Board of Directors.


Scott D. Anderson ’99
Anderson was elected managing partner in the Portland, ME, office of Verrill Dana LLP and focuses his practice on utilities and environmental law.


Hon. Lara E. Montecalvo ’00
Montecalvo was appointed to the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in September. She began her legal career as a trial lawyer in the Department of Justice in Washington, DC, and has served in the Rhode Island Public Defender’s Office since 2004 as a trial attorney, appellate attorney, chief of the Appellate Division, and most recently, public defender. In addition, she is a member the Rhode Island General Assembly Special Legislative Commission on Reducing the Incarceration of Women.


Andrew J. P. Levy ’01
Levy is chief corporate and government affairs officer at Accenture in the firm’s Chicago, IL, office and leads the company’s geopolitical strategic analysis and its global government relations function. He previously served as general counsel for growth markets at Accenture, based in Hong Kong and Singapore.


Bryan A. Nickels ’01
Nickels was appointed chief administrative hearing officer for the newly created Office of Administrative Hearings in Boise, ID, established to centralize and standardize contested court hearings, mediations, and arbitrations by state agencies. Previously, he was a partner and founding member of Scanlan, Griffiths, Aldridge & Nickels in Boise and practiced in the areas of administrative, civil, and criminal law and mediation.


Laura M. Hirst ’02
Hirst is a partner in the Boston office of Ropes & Gray LLP and a member of the firm’s asset management, private funds, hedge funds, and cryptocurrency and blockchain practice groups.


Rebecca Ross-Bown ’02
Ross-Bown is chief of legal operations in the Washington, DC, office of Reed Smith LLP and oversees the firm’s thirty offices in the US, Europe, and Asia. She was previously chief legal operations officer at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP in DC.


Laura B. Angelini ’03
Angelini was honored as a 2022 Top Women of Law by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. A partner in the Boston office of Hinckley Allen & Snyder LLP, she is a member of the government enforcement and white-collar defense practice groups and focuses her practice on representing individuals in criminal and civil investigations.


Peter F. Durning ’03
Durning is a partner in the real estate and environmental practice groups at Burns & Levinson LLP in Boston. He and the members of his former firm, Boston-based Mackie Shea Durning PC, joined Burns & Levinson to form one of the largest environmental practices in the region. Durning represents clients in environmental litigation, enforcement defense, and land use permitting and appeals, with a focus on water and wetlands matters.


Michael H. Hayden ’04
Hayden, a partner at Morrison Mahoney LLP in Boston, was elected treasurer of the Massachusetts Bar Association for 2022–23. He focuses his practice on professional liability, specifically defense of nonmedical professionals, retail litigation, product liability, liquor liability, transportation law, and environmental law.


Katherine N. “Katie” Rogers ’04
Rogers is special counsel in the Washington, DC, office of Kelley Drye & Warren LLP and focuses her practice on regulatory counseling and compliance in areas that include advertising and consumer protection, food and dietary supplements, privacy, consumer product safety, and environmental benefit claims.


Charity R. Clark ’05
Clark ran a successful campaign to become the first woman elected attorney general in Vermont. Former assistant attorney general and chief of staff in the Office of the Vermont Attorney General, she plans to continue her focus on consumer protection, criminal justice reform, the environment, and reproductive rights.


Shana M. Solomon ’05
Solomon was named to the Top Women of Law list for 2022 by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly. She is a trial lawyer and a director in the Boston office of Preti Flaherty, where she is co-chair of the litigation practice group and a member of the firm’s diversity and nominating committees.


Sarah D. Wellings ’06
Wellings rejoined Sullivan & Worcester LLP as counsel in the firm’s Boston office, where she began her legal career as an associate. She is a member of the firm’s real estate investment trusts practice group and focuses her practice on state and local tax issues. She most recently served as deputy general counsel and chief compliance officer at the Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor, ME.


Michael A. Brown ’10
Brown is vice president, assistant general counsel, and assistant secretary in the corporate and securities practice of the New York Times. He previously served as deputy general counsel and corporate secretary at Cipher Mining, in New York, NY, and before that, deputy general counsel and assistant corporate secretary at Clearway Energy in Princeton, NJ.


Victoria M. “Tori” Santoro Mair ’10
Santoro Mair was elected vice president of the Massachusetts Bar Association for 2022–23. A partner at Sweeney Merrigan Law LLP in Boston, she is a member of the firm’s trial team and handles a variety of cases, including pharmaceutical litigation, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and sexual assault. In November, she was named a 2022 Top Women of Law honoree by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly.


Carla A. Reeves ’10
Reeves was appointed to the Board of Directors of YouthBuild USA, a global nonprofit providing community-based pre-apprenticeship programs, job training, and educational opportunities for at-risk youth. She is a partner at Goulston & Storrs and focuses her practice on employment law and litigation.


Ashley E. Werner ’11
Werner, directing attorney at the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability (LCJA) in Fresno, CA, was featured in a YouTube short film, Boxed In: CEQA Protecting Public Health in South Fresno. The film describes how a community in South Fresno, represented by Werner and LCJA members, used the California Environmental Quality Act to successfully challenge industrial development that would have threatened the health and safety of its residents.


Jan N. Wolfe ’11
Wolfe is a business legal affairs correspondent for the Wall Street Journal and covers significant legal disputes in federal courts, including the US Supreme Court, in Washington, DC, and around the country. He previously reported on legal and regulatory issues for Thomson Reuters Corporation.


Jonathan B. Selden ’12
Selden is in-house counsel in the Corporate Risk Management Department at GZA GeoEnvironmental, a consultancy firm providing geotechnical, environmental, ecological, water, and construction management services, in Norwood, MA. He was previously corporate counsel for US Ecology in Franklin, MA, and has served in senior legal positions at National Response Corporation, ENPRO Holdings Group, and TMC Environmental.

James Bor-Zale ’17
Bor-Zale and his wife, Kristen, announce the newest addition to the family, Noah Guo-An Bor-Zale, who was born in Boston in September, just one day shy of sharing a birthdate with his older brother, Luke. Bor-Zale, a senior associate in the Boston office of Wilmer Hale, reports that they are adjusting well to becoming a family of four.
