Alexander C. Tang

Alexander C. Tangi ’84 is an attorney in the Federal Trade Commission’s Office of the General Counsel in Washington, DC. Outside of the office, he maintains a busy and wide-ranging career as a professional pianist, conductor, arranger, and coach.

       

Favorite Gig: “Wherever I’m playing at the moment, whether an open mic in a bar, a concert at the Kennedy Center, or the Opera House orchestra pit for The Lion King national tour.” Late Bloomer: Didn’t start formal piano lessons until he was almost thirteen. My Last Summer Vacation: Accompanied the Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington, DC, on a concert tour of Cuba, one of the first cultural delegations since the United States and Cuba re-established diplomatic relations. Tour’s Crescendo: Meeting Raul Castro’s daughter, Mariela Castro, a prominent advocate for LGBT rights. All in the Family: He and his husband, also a lawyer, live in a townhouse they restored in DC’s Kalorama-Embassy Row.
