NNaomi Lam ’25 has been awarded the prestigious Bergstrom Child Welfare Summer Fellowship, which offers the opportunity to receive training from experts and gain insight into the child welfare field during a ten-week placement or post-graduate position.
“We are thrilled to learn of Naomi’s selection for the Bergstrom Child Welfare Fellowship,” said Michelle Grossfield, director of BC Law’s public interest and pro bono programs. “Naomi’s dedication to representing children and families has been steadfast throughout her time at BC Law, equipping her with the skills and training to effectively represent parents, children, and legal guardians upon graduation. The fellowship will expand her knowledge and network as she embarks on her legal career and serves as a zealous advocate for her clients.”
After the fellowship, Lam will join the Committee for Public Counsel Services (CPCS) as a trial attorney in their Children and Family Law Division.
A history and theater major as an undergrad at Dartmouth, Lam subsequently worked for City Year AmeriCorps before coming to BC Law, where she has been involved clinically in civil litigation for family justice and child health and education. She has also been active in the Law School’s Public Interest Law Foundation and was co-president of the Children’s Rights Group.
The highly competitive national Bergstrom Fellowship program was established by Michigan Law alum Henry A. Bergstrom to support dedicated students seeking experience in child welfare offices that specialize in representing children, parents, and social service agencies. It includes an invitation to, and stipend for, the Bergstrom Child Welfare Law Fellowship retreat, which will take place in May at the Butzel Retreat Center in Ortonville, MI, as well as a stipend to attend a future child welfare law conference within fifteen months of the retreat.
