Ben Spiess

Benjamin Spiess was elected as a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers in 2025. He is a partner at Landye Bennett Blumstein in Anchorage, AK, and a member of the firm’s real estate practice group representing clients across the Pacific Northwest.

Coast to Coast Four years after graduating from BC Law, Spiess made the impulsive decision to return to his roots in Alaska, where his work in real estate expanded with his move. “In a small market like Alaska you have to be a generalist on some level,” he explained. This year, he was elected as a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.  Carpentry For Spiess, being a lawyer is like being a carpenter: “Our job is to understand issues and goals, bang out solutions, and craft agreements. It’s not rocket science but it is hard work, almost manual labor.” Currently, he is exploring finance and Native American law through the lens of development of natural resources such as oil, gas, mining, and timber. “The work is complicated. The people are interesting and difficult. The politics are tricky. It’s fun,” Spiess said.
