Andrew Jones

Andrew Jones, a trial attorney in St. Joseph County, IN, has served as lead counsel at trial in a number of civil and criminal defense cases. His firm, Jones Law Office LLC, represents private and government parties in litigation matters. In a recent, multi-million-dollar, public-figure defamation case, the jury returned a verdict for Jones and his client after three years of litigation.

Political Pressure: One of Jones’s clients, Timothy Stabosz, the county auditor of LaPorte, IN, was sued for defamation after he publicly commented that the county attorney, Shaw Friedman, was engaged in illegal and unethical behavior. Jones argued that the comments were protected political speech, but his motion was dismissed, which led to appeals to the Indiana Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court. Three years later, the case went to trial. Perseverance and Payoff: “This was the most complicated case I have ever handled,” Jones said. The plaintiff had requested $5.85 million; the jury awarded $0. The win came down to trust: “As an attorney, trust your own instincts,” Jones said. “As a client, hire a lawyer who you can trust—and then trust her or him.”
