It was a night of celebration, high-fives, thumbs-up, and smiles as five remarkable alumni were honored at the Ritz-Carlton Boston on Law Day, May 1. A welcome from Dean Vincent Rougeau, who also sang “America the Beautiful” with Michael Puzo ’77, and an invocation by Francis Herrmann, SJ, ’77, preceded the award presentations by Law Day Committee co-chairs Michael K. Fee ’84 and James E. McDermott ’80.

The much-prized St. Thomas More Award was bestowed upon Hon. Ellen Huvelle ’75, senior US district judge of the US District Court for the District of Columbia. Former US Representative Michael Capuano ’77 was given the William J. Kenealy, SJ, Alumnus of the Year Award. Hon. Denis P. Cohen ’76, judge of the Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia, won the Daniel G. Holland Lifetime Achievement Award. The Hon. David S. Nelson Public Interest Law Award went to Jennifer Smith ’98, executive director of the International Legal Foundation. Esther Adetunji ’11, supervising attorney at Bread for the City in Washington, DC, received the Recent Graduate Award.
