The 66th Annual Wendell F. Grimes Moot Court Competition took place at BC Law on April 13, with Bennett Demsky and Amy Santos prevailing over Hannah Phillips and William Sjostrom in a hard-fought final round.
Catherine Pearson and Shannon McCabe won Top Oralists. Amy Santos & Bennett Demsky, Anupriya Nair & Veronica Yabloko, and Shamus Miller & Bridget Ansscombe earned Best Brief team awards.
The finalists prepared for months leading into the event. Both teams demonstrated exceptional skill as they were challenged from the bench by a distinguished panel of judges, including Charity Clark ‘05, Attorney General of Vermont; The Honorable Patrick Donovan ‘90, Associate Justice of the New Hampshire Supreme Court; and The Honorable Mary Thomas Sullivan, Justice (Ret.) of the MA Appeals Court.
The Grimes competition is overseen by BC Law’s Director of Advocacy Programs, Rosemary Daly ’87, and the Board of Student Advisors (BSA). This year’s finalists competed in several intense levels of competition leading up to the final round.
In a new addition this year, the Finals was followed immediately by the annual BSA Awards Banquet. At the banquet, Bennett Demsky won the Russell G. Murphy Award for Outstanding Second-Year Oralist, Sarah Kaplan won the Joseph F. & Mary M. Gill Award for Outstanding National Trial Competition Participant, and Keyon Rostamnezhad won the Peter A. Donovan Award for Outstanding Third-Year Oralist.
