ileta A. Sumner was the recipient of the 2022 Peacemaker Award presented annually by the San Antonio Bar Foundation to honor those who have promoted peaceful resolutions to community conflicts (see video of event at sanantoniobar.org). She is the founding general counsel of the Battered Women and Children’s Shelter in San Antonio, TX, a nonprofit organization that has continued for decades to assist hundreds of families. Despite having to leave the full-time practice of law for health reasons, she is an ongoing contributor to the San Antonio Lawyer magazine, leads service projects for Inns of Court, and volunteers with the San Antonio Legal Services Association.
