All visitors arriving at Boston Logan International Airport hear an overhead PA voice welcoming them to Boston. The same voice gives public service announcements regarding safety, delays, and other procedures. Most people won’t recognize this voice—but in the near future, BC Law students might just have a chance to be greeted by one of their own.
Third-year student Max German has been named one of eight finalists to become the next “Voice of Logan.” More than 6,000 people applied to be a part of the competition to select the next voice at the airport, replacing Massport employee Joe LoGiudice who served in the role for 25 years.
In numerous media interviews, German mentions being a BC “Double Eagle” with obvious pride and says that being connected to BC, Boston and Massachusetts has made him the person he is today—saying that it’s given him a life he never could’ve imagined.
“All my friends were telling me I should apply [to the contest] and so I did,” German told BC Law Magazine, although he says he never thought it would go very far. “Then I got a call that I was a finalist…I’ve just been blown away by the whole thing. What a great experience to be able to celebrate and enjoy my deep Massachusetts pride.”
Applications were judged on several criteria, the most important being the “vibe” of Boston Logan Airport. According to the official rules, the chosen winner must make people within the airport feel welcome with a “distinctly Boston” voice. In addition, the judges looked for clarity, delivery, and authenticity, and reviewed a personal statement from each applicant.
Applicants were also provided with a script that celebrates many hallmarks of the city, including mentions of iced coffee, the Green Monster at Fenway, and the food of the North End. The script was featured on The Tonight Show, where host Jimmy Fallon had actor Ben Affleck throw his hat into the ring.
German was born in Worcester, and grew up in Shrewsbury as a big BC hockey fan. After high school he attended a community college before transferring to Boston College. After graduating in 2022, he worked for a local union and for the state government before coming to BC Law. “People who know me know that I believe deeply in giving back to the state, which has given me everything,” he said. “I’m hard-core Massachusetts because we’re a place that just does it right here. I hope to have everyone’s support!”
Public voting to determine the winner opens Saturday, October 24, and closes Wednesday, October 28. German’s audition is featured on the Voice of Logan website, along with the other seven finalists. The winner and new voice of Logan Airport will be announced on November 5 on Kiss 108’s Billy & Lisa in the Morning show.
